<br /></div>
<br />
<br />
We like Quartzsite but not in January while the big RV show is on, this year we had a couple of reasons to want to come here and share the desert with several hundred thousand RVers.<br />
<br />
We had been trying to hook up with our friends <a href="http://tdhomestead.blogspot.com/">Dianne and Tom</a> since October, somehow life got in the way and last week was the time it worked for us and them.<br />
<br />
Dianne and Tom were camping with their friends from the Escapee group Classless Class, the day we arrived two couple were putting on their Quesadilla and Margarita night.<br />
We were invited to the campfire and enjoyed a quesadilla and a margarita complete with a salted rim. Everyone was so nice and made us feel very welcome.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="font-size: 12.8px;">Tom and Dianne </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Bob Richie took this picture, he and his wife Karen are from Chase BC<br />
<br />
We have never camped with a group before, but it was fine, even with our three dogs, Most of the couples had left by the end of the week. Unfortunately several people came down with cold/flu so we didn't see too much of them<br />
Skip was really interested in the windscreen Tom had built, so Tom assembled it so Skip and Robbie<br />
could have a look.<br />

<br />
<br />
Skip and I attended the 2nd annual Bloggerfest in Quartzsite last Saturday. We were actually in town last year , but didn't attend mainly because it was too overwhelming for me. I get very nervous and uneasy in large groups of people. I regretted that decision for a whole year.<br />
<br />
<br />
This year I was determined to attend and I tried to ignore the butterflies in my stomach. I really wanted to see <a href="http://travelwiththebayfieldbunch.blogspot.com/">Al and Kelly</a>,and there were bloggers attending that I had met over the years. Plus I was hoping some of the people I had been reading for years would be there.<br />

We had intended to leave Ogilbe Road and go to either Quartzsite or Joshua Tree National Park, the night before we were to leave we decided to go to Ajo. Ajo and Darby Well Road BLM is one of our favorite boon docking spots.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCVt53SuxTUN51NWlzHct42wquqIfLrRB81j3hYfqK8P-1xM-ZMMDKy09SXNFZSx-HNCwaZ3rOnUH9QYBsZSjMkoXy1UBJiCdOVL13KhmNOhyphenhyphenowr1tIOfWtwSD9xTRG3-eDMfIjFq_kEg/s1600/IMG_2913.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCVt53SuxTUN51NWlzHct42wquqIfLrRB81j3hYfqK8P-1xM-ZMMDKy09SXNFZSx-HNCwaZ3rOnUH9QYBsZSjMkoXy1UBJiCdOVL13KhmNOhyphenhyphenowr1tIOfWtwSD9xTRG3-eDMfIjFq_kEg/s320/IMG_2913.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">We loved camping a long Darby Wells Road</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<span id="goog_1703983823"></span><span id="goog_1703983824"></span><br />
<br />
We were on the road by 8 AM, but by the time we dumped our tanks and took on water at the Giant/76 gas station in Yuma, stopped at Walmart, and Tractor Supply ( like Buckerfields ) and got propane in the foothills, it was almost noon. We stopped at Date Land for a date shake and drove straight to Ajo, and turned on to Darby Well Rd. We knew that the mining company had fenced along the road, and that are favorite camping spot likely wouldn't be available. We stopped unhooked the car and Skip went in search of a spot. It was a major disappointment when he couldn't find anything we could fit into. The one place that was big and available was at the Y in the road and it was littered with rusty cans and broken glass. So we hooked the car up and headed 10 miles down the highway to Why and the BLM at Gunsight Wash.<br />
<br />
And are we ever glad we did. We really like it here, we have a big private site along the wash, It is so green here, lots of Mesquite Trees, Palo Verde and Desert Broom, some of the Creosote bushes are in bloom.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Our Site<br />

</tbody></table>
There is a camp host here, we had to sign in, but she said the ranger hadn't bothered to give her the proper forms, so she didn't care how long we stayed. There are about a dozen or so RVs here, but there are many many sites.<br />
<br />
There are lots of coyotes here, so the dogs have lost the freedom they enjoyed on Ogilbe Rd. The coyotes know that they are here and have got really bold coming close to the RV several times a day. I am never fast enough with the camera to get a good picture of one.<br />

<br />
A few years ago we saw a reference to the Old Plank Road that was built to across the sand dunes to to shorten the route from San Diego to Phoenix,<br />
<br />
We knew roughly where there were preserved remains of the road and on Sunday we set out to find them. Grays Well rest area is in California roughly 16 miles east of Yuma on highway 8, at this time of year there are lots of atvs, dune buggies etc on the sand dunes surrounding the rest area.<br />
<br />
The Imperial Sand Dunes are quite high and we saw these brave souls on the top of one across from the rest area.<br />

There is an interesting article in <a href="http://www.desertusa.com/sandhills/plankrd.html">Desert Usa</a> about the building and the demise of the old road, basically it was just too difficult to maintain and despite a rebuilding by the government it was only<br />
used until about 1926.<br />
<br />
We also saw <a href="http://geosuzie.blogspot.com/">George and Suzie</a> this week, they are staying at Pilot Knob RV Parks just a few miles down the road from us. We had a good visit sitting in the sun catching up on all the news. We will see them again in January after the big show in Quartzsite.<br />

<br />
When I wrote the last blog I couldn't find all the pictures I took of the fire at Mittry Lake, I still can't upload pictures in Windows 10...last I checked blogger wouldn't work at all in Windows 10, so I am still uploading to Skip's laptop, and mailing the pictures to myself and accessing blogger through chrome.<br />
<br />
These pictures give a better idea of the extent of the fire.<br />

<br />
We visited with Denise on Thursday, she's loving it at the lake.<br />
<br />
One more week and I go back to the dentist, the last of the stitches has finally dissolved,so I must be healed up. One appointment for impressions and one more for the fitting of my new partial and I am done.<br />
<br />
We are trying to decide where we are going after we are done here. We are really missing Borrego it is probably our very favorite spot, but there are others too,we like Ajo a lot.<br />

<br />
Nanoose Bay. We went with them to Mittry Lake, we weren't aware that there had been another fire,<br />
<br />
last August, this one started at the boat launch and burned towards the campsites. It is quite a mess.<br />

<br />
We stayed a few days and after they left for Apache Junction we continued on toward Yuma.<br />
<br />
<br />
We are staying just off Ogilby Rd. we have been here several weeks and will be here at least two<br />
<br />
more weeks. I had a run in with a dryer door, ended up with a bloody lip and a broken eyetooth. I<br />
<br />
made an appointment with <a href="http://wheelingit.us/">Nina'</a>s dentist, Dr Eva Urena .I was hoping for a quick repair but she was<br />
<br />
unable to save the tooth. So it was pulled two weeks ago and I don't go back until Dec.21.<br />

<br />
<br />
Denise is now at Mittry Lake, and we had lunch with her the other day. It was so good to see her.<br />
<br />
Skip has been working on his model boat, it is slow going, because he doesn't want to make any<br />
<br />
mistakes, and he has had to special order some items.<br />

<br />
My computer is still the same, I did reload Chrome with no difficulties, but I still can't import<br />
<br />
photos, or access the apps that were removed. I believe it has to do with my Samsung computer, not<br />
<br />
being compatible with Windows 10.<br />

<br />
Last post we were about to leave Carson City on our way to Lone Pine, we decide to take the dogs <br />
<br />
for a quick walk, that's when we noticed a large swelling under Jake's armpit and up on his shoulder.<br />
<br />
Jake has a lot of lumps but nothing the size of this one. We were lucky enough to get an appointment<br />
<br />
with the Docs Veterinary Hospital in Carson City, the swelling was a lymphoma. The vet decided <br />
<br />
to treat it with antibiotics, in case he had an infection. He's finished his two weeks of antibiotics, <br />
<br />
some of the swelling has gone down, although he has had some swelling of other lumps. He isn't in <br />
<br />
pain and he is eating well most days. Jake is almost 12, which is pretty old for a big dog, so we keep <br />
<br />
our fingers crossed that he will stay mobile and pain free.<br />
<br />
<br />
A day later than planned we headed for Lone Pine, what a beautiful drive, the road , Highway 395<br />
<br />
was good most of the way and the traffic was light. We spent the first night boon docking just off <br />
<br />
Mount Whitney Portal Road, our Verizon signal was poor to nonexistent.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEip9LtEUdDGOjwUraMdbT2jfUOu_LSUfaDMFQBj0pe08AS7J5UJQjv8aySLgj5enVhTNkH-p75XzrXpaJXBVaUa21jOnmcQx5wSv3alty_DIFURg3GHSqWzRUX6kWTAubzKIp9pcQIL-E8/s1600/DSCN0713.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEip9LtEUdDGOjwUraMdbT2jfUOu_LSUfaDMFQBj0pe08AS7J5UJQjv8aySLgj5enVhTNkH-p75XzrXpaJXBVaUa21jOnmcQx5wSv3alty_DIFURg3GHSqWzRUX6kWTAubzKIp9pcQIL-E8/s320/DSCN0713.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Our boon docking spot. <br />
<br />
<br />
The next day we moved to Tuttle Creek Campground for seven days. The mountains were <br />
<br />
spectacular, the weather was good, other than one rainy day.<br />

<br />
Mount Whitney<br />
<br />
<br />
Then Windows 10 crashed or something. One morning I turned on the computer clicked the start <br />
<br />
button and got a message about a critical failure that windows 10 was repairing, a few minutes <br />
<br />
later another message came up that that the repair was almost done then I could restart, so I waited<br />
<br />
until it said it was 100% and restarted the computer .... and got the same message about the repair, <br />
<br />
waited again, restarted again got the same message. Finally a message came saying that a reset was<br />
<br />
needed I had two choices I could keep my personal files and lose apps or I could have a complete<br />
<br />
reset and not keep my personal files. I chose to keep my personal files.<br />
<br />
The reset happened my personal files are there, but everything else is gone. Chrome , Picasso, I can't<br />
<br />
upload pictures because it doesn't recognize my camera I guess. I haven't reinstalled Chrome because<br />
<br />
I don't know what caused the crash in the first place. Yikes! <br />
<br />
<br />
So I loaded my pictures on to Skips computer emailed them to myself and I am accessing blogger <br />
<br />
from Internet Explorer, where I have to got to get my mail because Windows 10 doesn't support <br />
<br />
Shaw webmail or blogger.<br />
<br />
<br />
Sorry this is so long, for once I had something to say.<br />

<br />
We are back on the road and heading to the south west for the winter again.<br />
<br />
<br />
We left the Island earlier than we had originally planned,as usual we took the ferry to Anacortes Wa<br />
<br />
where we had a short visit to with Skip's sister Pam,<br />
<br />
We stopped in Eugene at one of our favorite overnight spots,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2AyuY3s8UsYil5AK2mHhdBOqGmuc0v9h21FpDJfOaMS68dQnd6Y-f2m671uf9kg9KHVTRanZv89BAsxJ_mQaPSnxMfWKuokVI7bgeStih2r-ZPYlMI7xjkQVw-KRWPkF4I0t0hC7D0MY/s1600/DSCN0674.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2AyuY3s8UsYil5AK2mHhdBOqGmuc0v9h21FpDJfOaMS68dQnd6Y-f2m671uf9kg9KHVTRanZv89BAsxJ_mQaPSnxMfWKuokVI7bgeStih2r-ZPYlMI7xjkQVw-KRWPkF4I0t0hC7D0MY/s320/DSCN0674.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
This time we spent two days and met our friend Marylou, who treated us to a lovely lunch at a<br />
<br />
small Japanese restaurant in downtown Eugene.<br />
<br />
<br />
We had planned to meet Denise (Sassy) and <a href="http://tdhomestead.blogspot.com/">Tom and Diane</a>, but our early departure messed that up.<br />
<br />
We traveled to Bend Or last Thursday and found a Campground near Terrebonne where we<br />
<br />
stayed for two nights, Skull Hollow is a forestry campground that caters to tenters ( we were the<br />
<br />
only RV there) Every site was full of mostly young people. Unfortunately it rained hard and was<br />
<br />
very cold on Saturday and Sunday we woke to dense fog. We had planned to stay around Bend until<br />
<br />
Tom and Diane arrived, but we couldn't find any suitable boon docking spots close by. We ended up<br />
<br />
At Chickahominy Resevoir on highway 20 where we spent two nights. We loved it there it was so<br />
<br />
quiet, sunny and warm.<br />

<br />
We will see Tom and Diane later down the road and Denise is on her way to Arizona, so we will see<br />
<br />
her in a few weeks.<br />
<br />
<br />
This morning we are in the Carson Nugget Casino parking lot, which is not great, but the Casino was<br />
<br />
really good to us.<br />
<br />
<br />
Today we are heading down Highway 395 to Bishop and on to Lone Pine.....an area we have<br />
<br />
been wanting to visit for a number of years.<br />

The first time we visited Borrego Springs, we noticed an older RV park on Palm Canyon Drive on the left hand side as you drive toward the visitors center,’We were curious about<br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-Z95GOVQhh2o/VIE-kAX0NpI/AAAAAAAAF38/fOMMY1vzq8Y/s1600-h/DSCN0198%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="DSCN0198" border="0" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-MJLEyFA3Mas/VIE-lwYndAI/AAAAAAAAF4E/NoJNlFm-nmk/DSCN0198_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" height="184" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSCN0198" width="244" /></a><br />
So yesterday we finally took a drive through this small totally cool park. <br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-YTIWddxJKCM/VIE-nUohAII/AAAAAAAAF4M/eKHJ5TdjqtY/s1600-h/DSCN0190%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="DSCN0190" border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-7BCxu6iJQqU/VIE-oVTmzcI/AAAAAAAAF4U/h2zv_Ug1Hbg/DSCN0190_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" height="184" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSCN0190" width="244" /></a><br />
Some were plain with little landscaping, most were not<br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-u5GmmSliZqU/VIE-peHCoZI/AAAAAAAAF4c/QcY4fFH_LNg/s1600-h/DSCN0191%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img alt="DSCN0191" border="0" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-Kb11GqJbGEA/VIE-qPFyN_I/AAAAAAAAF4k/m6yyBIZziDc/DSCN0191_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" height="184" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSCN0191" width="244" /></a><br />

There were around forty RVs all vintage and most of them looked well loved, I just took the pictures form the car, and didn’t take any when the owners were out side.<br />
<br />
When we drove past the airport on the way to town, we immediately noticed the new solar installation on the far side of the airport.<br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-353wV6vq7S4/VIE-4USY2vI/AAAAAAAAF6M/tKdicoYghds/s1600-h/DSCN0189%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="DSCN0189" border="0" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-G1QRtx8jGvg/VIE-5w19BoI/AAAAAAAAF6U/Wt3NnC9C7KI/DSCN0189_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" height="184" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSCN0189" width="244" /></a><br />
This is the second solar field in Borrego, I believe this is the first stage. These panels are dual axis panels that track the sun. They have an odd finish like an oil slick. And they are huge. There will be 2800 of theses type of panels.<br />
The first solar project which was completed last year is massive, with 102,000 single axis panels that can generate power for 21,000 homes.<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-ONUxSGaC4Po/VIE-7J3tdKI/AAAAAAAAF6c/iX3pVj29Vjs/s1600-h/DSCN0202%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="DSCN0202" border="0" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-YKRhYaKv_2M/VIE-8ZDnO2I/AAAAAAAAF6k/-9CykLDxnn0/DSCN0202_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" height="184" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSCN0202" width="244" /></a><br />
<br />
The solar plant sells energy to San Diego County.<br />
Naturally these solar fields are not without controversy, some people feel they are a blight on the landscape, and they use a lot of water from an already depleted aquifer, for cleaning the panels. <br />
<br />
Progress I guess but I like the vintage RVs,<br />
and<br />
Jake likes to sleep with his head on the bowls so he doesn’t miss dinner<br />

We left Ogilby Rd on Monday after saying see you later to Denise and BennIE. The off roaders were already starting to fill up the dunes area.<br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-75E4JTN2P24/VHvtvsoWoCI/AAAAAAAAF2E/pjdp-yBmpMU/s1600-h/DSCN01403.jpg"><img alt="DSCN0140" border="0" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-yvK8260bYGI/VHvtwYYN9BI/AAAAAAAAF2M/tvpmETy065U/DSCN0140_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" height="184" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSCN0140" width="244" /></a><br />
We drove to El Centro so we could stop at Costco then up 86 to the Arco Station, to dump our tanks and get water and propane. No charge this year.. except for the propane of course.<br />
When we got to the boondocking area we were really happy to get the same spot we had last year, it was exactly as we left it.Even the stick that held the bird feeder was there.<br />
<br />

We have just been hanging out at our site, it is pretty crazy around Borrego Springs Thanksgiving week.<br />
We do go for walks everyday. I took Sophie and Louie up Inspiration Wash one day and down to the Dry Lake Bed today. Jake doesn’t come with us in the morning, but just before dinner, Skip brings him and we all go for a shorter walk.<br />
We did make one trip to town. <br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-74kTJDQffq4/VHvt0y3q0dI/AAAAAAAAF20/F8jd3IdIEqY/s1600-h/DSCN01613.jpg"><img alt="DSCN0161" border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-JNOfObG5p0A/VHvt1yUkzHI/AAAAAAAAF28/S70Y9UI2MU0/DSCN0161_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" height="184" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSCN0161" width="244" /></a><br />
Three dollars for a big bag of grapefruit, the oranges and Tangelos will be ready in a month.<br />
The WINs were at Peg Leg camping area.<br />

The day before Thanksgiving the Escapees were parked beside us. That’s Coyote Mountain again.<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-0HSmx_SofGY/VHvt5KTfCaI/AAAAAAAAF3U/mxXDSmllyRY/s1600-h/DSCN016315.jpg"><img alt="DSCN0163" border="0" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-QJ5VfGn3_II/VHvt5zTd-DI/AAAAAAAAF3c/NLFtjVSb_Oo/DSCN0163_thumb3.jpg?imgmax=800" height="184" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSCN0163" width="244" /></a><br />
It was starting to get a tad dusty, the off roaders were at the corner by Peg Leg<br />
There is a sign at the corner where the off roaders go 185 acres for sale. <br />
There was a steady stream of RVs leaving today, there is hardly anybody parked where we are directly up from Clark Dry Lake, a fifth wheel is parked in the site nearest us, we think they are also from Vancouver Island.<br />
We woke up to a cloudy sky this morning, it did make for a pretty spectacular sunrise. I didn’t touch up this picture.<br />

I’ve had a real hard time with this post, I have been trying to put it together for three days. In between fighting with my computer,.. more on that later.<br />
We just spent three days with our friends <a href="http://travel%20with%20the%20bayfield%20bunch/">Al and Kelly</a> at their home in Congress, if you read their blog you know all about out visit. Check out Nov. 10 – 11 – 12th<br />
Al took so many amazing pictures and wrote so well about our visit.You can see them<br />
<a href="http://travelwith%20the%20bayfieldbunch.com/2014/11" target="_blank">Here</a> then click forward for the next two days. .<br />
We are pretty private people and would normally never stay in anybody's yard especially with three dogs, but they made us and our dogs feel so welcome. Sophie, Louie and Jake had fun playing with Pheebs, and of course loved <a href="http://travel%20with%20the%20bayfield%20bunch/">Al and Kelly</a>. Jake was,allowed to visit in their house (most people are understandably not thrilled about 110lb dog in their living room)<br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-7Vwb8gkl5Hg/VGwlPC_hXfI/AAAAAAAAFxQ/nSKlDbRPunY/s1600-h/DSCN0049%25255B15%25255D.jpg"><img alt="DSCN0049" border="0" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-k9n8H9-pQdo/VGwlQJavZaI/AAAAAAAAFxY/Dcl_a-HW2EE/DSCN0049_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" height="184" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSCN0049" width="244" /></a><br />
Kelly took this picture with my new camera, also the next one that shows my graceful descent.<br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-XCG8oUDgVtU/VGwlQhxBP6I/AAAAAAAAFxg/qxg3wqoPWtw/s1600-h/DSCN0054%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="DSCN0054" border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-MUCG9sVQYyo/VGwlRSP_qEI/AAAAAAAAFxo/SIlTrn1E1z0/DSCN0054_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" height="184" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSCN0054" width="244" /></a><br />
I have no idea what cows eat in the desert, but they look healthy, even the calf beside his mom<br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-RlL6LYGabV8/VGwlSKg_IxI/AAAAAAAAFxw/6CWPYzl0WC8/s1600-h/DSCN0055%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="DSCN0055" border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-eaB4aGe2p10/VGwlS-RrF4I/AAAAAAAAFx4/KEYN4Pp-Ybw/DSCN0055_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" height="184" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSCN0055" width="244" /></a><br />
We had such a fun time with them, going out to the amazing desert near their house, checking out the old cemetery and going to Yarnell where we met <a href="http://geogypsy.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Gaelyn</a> who is a ranger,who spends her summers at the Grand Canyon, and her winters travelling, last year was South. Africa.<br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-C1qm7otI-54/VGwlTqm1QFI/AAAAAAAAFyA/fTQhRXPEZqM/s1600-h/DSCN00943.jpg"><img alt="DSCN0094" border="0" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-o8-EThknjSw/VGwlUbFCJZI/AAAAAAAAFyI/V3d0kO4WJsY/DSCN0094_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" height="185" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSCN0094" width="244" /></a><br />
We were sad to leave, but hopefully we will meet up again this winter and spend some more time together.<br />
After we left congress we drove to Ogilby Rd just 12 miles west of Yuma in California , we have stayed here each winter on our way to Borrego Springs.<br />
We were just setting up when Denise pulled in, she usually stays at Pilot Knob, but decided to join us. It was good to see her.<br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-vqZLfHU2i3g/VGwlV1PLzAI/AAAAAAAAFyQ/OH_0MUoYkBw/s1600-h/DSCN0121%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img alt="DSCN0121" border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-ucqg2efgn4U/VGwlWp24_9I/AAAAAAAAFyY/dfrn0IZP0y8/DSCN0121_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" height="184" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSCN0121" width="244" /></a><br />
And Little Benny<br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-xnoFbvRT7FA/VGwlXS1ZXDI/AAAAAAAAFyg/L7-JbFhPNMI/s1600-h/DSCN0122%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="DSCN0122" border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-cwl2kHrtm6U/VGwlYEnORwI/AAAAAAAAFyo/tCDKg8zc3XU/DSCN0122_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" height="184" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="DSCN0122" width="244" /></a><br />
Denise has been having computer problems and had just found out she had a virus. She thinks she got it on Oct 21 which is when she noticed she was using way too many GB .Because we email back and forth I checked my anti virus program which is Windows Essentials, sure enough there was a Trojan Virus the program caught and put in quarantine on Oct. 21. I thought I should run the MalwareBytes program which turned out to be missing (?) I reinstalled it but it brought with it three different programs which I didn’t want, and yes I checked to see if there were any add ons and read the fine print, and it still happened . It took forever to get rid of them.<br />
I am pretty happy with my new camera, I like the zoom a lot.<br />

We had several maps showing the location, but there was no marked trail we could find.</p> <p>This where we were heading.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-JvZIVwzxfEw/VEnfuy3cazI/AAAAAAAAFuY/lBBBjZKUl1g/s1600-h/P1020712%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img title="P1020712" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="P1020712" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-snAC1rkcz5w/VEnfvyqqZnI/AAAAAAAAFug/nz32RntPhaM/P1020712_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p> </p> <p>We had seen several groups heading up the slick rock toward where we thought the cave was, so we packed up and walked up Wild Horse Wash to look for a trail up. Walking up the slick rock was fun, but it took us a while to find some cairns that marked the way. The problem with following the cairns is you don’t know who placed them and they were so darn hard to see, most of them being the same colour as the rock. </p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-1Tb25FLChpY/VEnfwzjomGI/AAAAAAAAFuo/_8AsQtyGtpE/s1600-h/IMG_5299%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5299" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="IMG_5299" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-ZLUSqaHGr78/VEnfxhYQDaI/AAAAAAAAFuw/vafSCc6zfnA/IMG_5299_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p>Skip Taking a break</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-w6zk-akkQdk/VEnfyU8j-PI/AAAAAAAAFu4/hA8ykTSOsWc/s1600-h/1-P1020661%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img title="1-P1020661" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="1-P1020661" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-1aM_MlIXT6Q/VEnfzaArYNI/AAAAAAAAFvA/dsgu7u_BPIU/1-P1020661_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p>We could see our RV and our neighbours across the wash, we are where the little blue x is.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-bgPckejKENA/VEnf0SMKQdI/AAAAAAAAFvI/IJLCYyx8x10/s1600-h/1-P1020708%25255B11%25255D.jpg"><img title="1-P1020708" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="1-P1020708" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-ZhcbMOQLtvQ/VEnf1CT_0ZI/AAAAAAAAFvQ/kZUtboK2lp0/1-P1020708_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p> At one point we could hear dogs barking and realized it was our dogs. We looked back at our rig and we could see our neighbour walking around our site with his dog. Amazing how sound carries across the canyons</p> <p> </p> <p>We could see the cave for quite a ways and finally we were at the narrow path leading up to Skylight Cave.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-w3ufR9WASeM/VEnf2oaCc9I/AAAAAAAAFvY/l0EgMRINndw/s1600-h/1-P1020682%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="1-P1020682" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="1-P1020682" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-2MNqx_oIuvw/VEnf3Q24TfI/AAAAAAAAFvg/HGrEStRJsSk/1-P1020682_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Vb6HR7BtmMI/VEnf4Y3STII/AAAAAAAAFvo/dzsnNv6tQRs/s1600-h/1-P1020700%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img title="1-P1020700" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="1-P1020700" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-i3KOrCZyEHM/VEnf5D4_lCI/AAAAAAAAFvw/chUYkaiqGyk/1-P1020700_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-phNoimWnDHc/VEnf6IkVfnI/AAAAAAAAFv4/CSsgSLIBGI4/s1600-h/1-P1020692%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img title="1-P1020692" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="1-P1020692" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-VrtEkMfkoiU/VEnf64ilxbI/AAAAAAAAFwA/-TZAKxwj790/1-P1020692_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/--TOU6VuXLsg/VEnf7mCF59I/AAAAAAAAFwI/MBz92sovduE/s1600-h/IMG_5274%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5274" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="IMG_5274" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-hjD34qKhtCs/VEnf8f07pBI/AAAAAAAAFwQ/iy7htiJOpFc/IMG_5274_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-5Z2YtXJiTxU/VEnf9RuP_JI/AAAAAAAAFwY/UtP4d2paJQU/s1600-h/IMG_5282%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5282" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="IMG_5282" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-sslvRJidcOc/VEnf-YWXVxI/AAAAAAAAFwg/qzHBr_maLX4/IMG_5282_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p>We were told by two hikers we met that the Pictographs were fake.</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-Aoe0PpA86uQ/VEnf_KzmQWI/AAAAAAAAFwo/vc5NQ85CViY/s1600-h/IMG_5275%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="IMG_5275" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="IMG_5275" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-e1rapexKzFI/VEnf_4xdzFI/AAAAAAAAFww/lxTXWXgXrKI/IMG_5275_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-xtURWplmrug/VEngAwV5SRI/AAAAAAAAFw4/CDXSEsCxSaQ/s1600-h/P1020685%25255B27%25255D.jpg"><img title="P1020685" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="P1020685" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-vS7cT8oaJyk/VEngBjjAaoI/AAAAAAAAFxA/CtOCQY6Ms-4/P1020685_thumb%25255B6%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p>It is a huge cave, Skip looks so small.</p> <p> We had a fun day looking for the cave and walking up the slick rock. We ended up going for a six or seven mile hike.</p> <p>From the web:</p> <p>The unusual stone shapes in Goblin Valley result from the weathering of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entrada_Sandstone">Entrada Sandstone</a>. The Entrada consists of debris eroded from former highlands and redeposited on a former tidal flat of alternating layers of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandstone">sandstone</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siltstone">siltstone</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shale">shale</a>. The rocks show evidence of being near the margins of an ancient sea with the ebb and flow of tides, tidal channels that directed currents back to the sea and coastal sand dunes. <p><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_(geology)">Joint</a> or fracture patterns within the Entrada sandstone beds created initial zones of weakness. The unweathered joints intersected to form sharp edges and corners with greater surface-area-to-volume ratios than the faces. As a result, the edges weathered more quickly, producing the spherical-shaped 'goblins'. <p>The Entrada Sandstone from which the hoodoos developed was deposited in the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jurassic">Jurassic</a> Period around 170 million years ago. <p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-igua9-w9PEY/VEJ7Hbb84bI/AAAAAAAAFqg/wQMZ7_xOt5E/s1600-h/P1020429%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="P1020429" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="P1020429" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-oCO2QEk9vPk/VEJ7I1GC5hI/AAAAAAAAFqo/ueTA-_y73gk/P1020429_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-yi9x5_b-yhM/VEJ7KGvxodI/AAAAAAAAFqw/0CQD61UHTyU/s1600-h/P1020428%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="P1020428" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="P1020428" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-O2-hs_eVw-s/VEJ7KyKDF0I/AAAAAAAAFq4/KaOMMtiswkw/P1020428_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a> <p> </p> <p>Little Wild Horse Butte</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-HorjXbC8G0Q/VEJ7MAhkCaI/AAAAAAAAFrA/W1gsXdrzE74/s1600-h/P10204183.jpg"><img title="P1020418" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="P1020418" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-bNpmTKlEgY4/VEJ7NE2Ue3I/AAAAAAAAFrI/uwaCt0A5F0Q/P1020418_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p>We paid our $8.00 for a day pass, and drove up to the view point, where the trails began and where you could see lot’s of Goblins. On the Anacortes side US Customs asked about fruits and vegetables, and we were sent on our way.</p> <p>After a short visit with Skips sister Pam IN Anacortes, we headed down I-5 in the fog, to Marysville and the Tulalip Casino.The RV lots were full, but we were able to park one lot over close to a big field where we could walk the dogs.</p> <p>Tuesday morning we left Marysville early and went down I 405, which was really busy, we ended up south of Tacoma and drove down The Columbia River Gorge on highway 84.</p> <p>What a spectacular drive, the traffic wasn’t too bad, the weather was sunny and quite warm and the views were amazing. Just after, the town of Hood River, we saw a sign for Memaloose State Park, we turned in and got a site for two nights.Full Hooks ups were $24.00 per night. We like to here, there is road noise and we can hear the trains, but we needed to de- stress and this is a perfect place for that.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-_sMB3CyvgEw/VDYrXR-RcHI/AAAAAAAAFmQ/yixPIJinXYo/s1600-h/Oct%2525202013%252520to%2525200ct%2525202014%252520364%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="Oct 2013 to 0ct 2014 364" style="border-top: 0px; We are actually just driving down Island to Victoria, where we will spend the night before catching the ferry that runs between Sidney and Anacortes Washington.</p> <p>This will be the fifth winter we have headed to the south western US in search of warm temperatures and and sunny skies. We think we are ready, I hope we are. Garden stuff is put away, water taps are wrapped. Motorhome is loaded except for the last minute things we need..It seems that we spent the last couple of weeks getting there. We have pared down the three or four lists to one of last minute things. Travelling with three dogs means they have their own list…vet appointments, Jakes prescription filled, beds and blankets, dishes, food. </p> <p> We can take our time getting ready to leave today as we’re only driving 90 miles or so, we haven’t decided whether we will spend the night at the Sidney Ferry dock or stay in Victoria.</p> <p>We are hoping to get to Utah before the weather turns cold there. We have never been to South East Utah but it has been on our list for a few years.</p> <p>Our friends Gay and Martin drove up from Sidney to see us twice this summer, the last time Martin brought us maps he had copied to show us where they had camped. They have spent quite a while exploring the San Rafael Swell. We met Martin and Gay the first time we went to Borrego Springs, and have seen them every year since, sadly illness prevents them from travelling this year.</p> <p>It’s always hard to leave family and friends for five months, but we are looking forward to seeing our RV friends and travelling down new roads.</p> <p>Jean</p> Jean and Skiphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01106819454019297412noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5117870801809737278.post-18464801881502312992014-07-28T20:32:00.001-07:002014-07-29T15:21:11.971-07:00July<p> </p> <p>I was going to call this post “I really didn’t have anything to say”. </p> <p>So what have we been doing for three months? The usual yard work for me and house maintenance for Skip. We are both really ready for something new..just not sure what.</p> <p>So we went on a road trip to Saskatchewan almost 2500 miles round trip, but we had such a good time.</p> <p>We stopped for two days at Lac La Jeaun Provincial Park</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-F2KxOFXuQLE/U9cVYje8MvI/AAAAAAAAFgU/eQo_qckXa2M/s1600-h/P10201673.jpg"><img title="P1020167" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="P1020167" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-baUsYCZXYFc/U9cVZ58O1bI/AAAAAAAAFgc/5SKS-vLK1dU/P1020167_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-4srYF52Uerk/U9cVbkv1U6I/AAAAAAAAFgk/xTmq3VSJ7po/s1600-h/P10201753.jpg"><img title="P1020175" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="P1020175" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-I0QcSdAYl_c/U9cVcGzQy9I/AAAAAAAAFgs/dT7vtKrvPe0/P1020175_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p>We took highway 1, through the Rodgers Pass, through Banff and Glacier National Parks, which were really busy. We were planning on staying in Glacier but we couldn’t find a spot,</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-JMAQJYZAy7w/U9cVdRH3JlI/AAAAAAAAFg0/PYobU5G-2ss/s1600-h/P10201893.jpg"><img title="P1020189" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="P1020189" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-CiEbNhE8WGI/U9cVd3X3XMI/AAAAAAAAFg4/3Gt0VqnlDqY/P1020189_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-syF_4lHb5g4/U9cVe2WN-eI/AAAAAAAAFhE/dv40HDjHbIc/s1600-h/P1020191.13.jpg"><img title="P1020191.1" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="P1020191.1" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-B1IMsOMMK4Q/U9cVfWjKy_I/AAAAAAAAFhI/tD9tLxM_8FM/P1020191.1_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-XJsevt-AbWQ/U9cVgjZZV5I/AAAAAAAAFhU/on_b502CZaU/s1600-h/P1020194.13.jpg"><img title="P1020194.1" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="P1020194.1" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-ppCse0WooqM/U9cVhl2WkjI/AAAAAAAAFhc/GkOl98R6LJg/P1020194.1_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p>We spent the day at Drumheller in Alberta, it was really hot, too hot to leave the dogs in the RV. The motorhome is mostly unpacked, we found most of the things we packed away before we left. It’s odd being back in our home, it is a small house that seems large in the spring. We seem to have so much stuff.</p> <p>Owl canyon was a good end to our winter travels, we took a ride through Rainbow Canyon, it was pretty amazing , bright bright green, red, yellow, orange. We had a couple of really hot days, it was so quiet….until they dropped their bombs or whatever they did at Fort Irwin. It happened everyday about four explosions, then nothing, we never saw a plane.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-5DkY3s3PHUc/UyRrJ5v7wvI/AAAAAAAAFcE/Y6Fvkx6V0lk/s1600-h/1-P1020059-001%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="1-P1020059-001" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="1-P1020059-001" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-7GQpKq--g1k/UyRrK3OnJLI/AAAAAAAAFcM/sTGtXj_HdBg/1-P1020059-001_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-61Oozq4Gs34/UyRrMSap_FI/AAAAAAAAFcU/41s6oaeMzTM/s1600-h/1-P1020060%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="1-P1020060" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="1-P1020060" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Tiy0_VRHOnc/UyRrMwtJKkI/AAAAAAAAFcc/RPzSrYmNF-Y/1-P1020060_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p> </p> <p>Our trip home was pretty uneventful, no snow at all, but torrential rains in central and northern California made for a pretty stressful drive. When we were In Quartzsite we were undecided about our route home and where to spend the last couple of weeks before heading home.</p> <p>We really liked staying at the Road Runner BLM, it was quiet, not many people, and lot’s of room for the dogs </p> <p>Sunrise at Road Runner</p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-7lDmP7weoZE/Uww1bVCx8II/AAAAAAAAFZc/JYuyfbConm8/s1600-h/1-P1010929%25255B2%25255D.jpg"><img title="1-P1010929" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="1-P1010929" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-smCZLJol0qU/Uww1dMVN2kI/AAAAAAAAFZk/juGhzqecZsc/1-P1010929_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="176"></a><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-iga26f6ORhY/Uww1eeJS3aI/AAAAAAAAFZs/iCn1q-CNwrw/s1600-h/1-P1010937%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img title="1-P1010937" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="1-P1010937" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-zZq6JhMxdeI/Uww1fDC7c_I/AAAAAAAAFZ0/AwM-9VqHkP8/1-P1010937_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p>After two weeks at Road Runner, we headed back to Yuma to get the oil changed in the motor home and in the tracker. We parked by a wash off Ogilbey Road way farther in than we usually park, other than a few trips to Yuma to get groceries and do laundry we just enjoyed the wonderful weather.</p> <p>Sophie and Louie love it there because they can be off leash more.</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-Gwt5yCk8Oyk/Uww1g62IkWI/AAAAAAAAFZ8/7WQW2tWf1vs/s1600-h/1-P1010989%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="1-P1010989" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="1-P1010989" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-XI_kZ6-6iKc/Uww1hrLsKCI/AAAAAAAAFaE/dDjQ2hBWgd8/1-P1010989_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="175"></a></p> <p>Jake is getting pretty grey and he doesn’t like to go for long walks anymore.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-3umYWdb6FJc/Uww1jHMdLOI/AAAAAAAAFaM/v9wMJHgkz_4/s1600-h/1-P1010990%25255B2%25255D.jpg"><img title="1-P1010990" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="1-P1010990" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-L5DV6pvYHZU/Uww1kGjWNNI/AAAAAAAAFaU/lVxaciJn8DQ/1-P1010990_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="175" height="244"></a></p> <p>but sometimes he surprises us</p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-IaW3W-lee74/Uww1lNZOB5I/AAAAAAAAFac/KDyPQ8C846c/s1600-h/1-P1010975%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="1-P1010975" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="1-P1010975" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-AqpNKsq_yOM/Uww1mcV73BI/AAAAAAAAFak/uczHyH_5V54/1-P1010975_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="176"></a></p> <p> </p> <p>One thing we will miss when we go home.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-C8GVXAlrkQY/Uww1m-HR29I/AAAAAAAAFas/Q8o5U2GZq68/s1600-h/1-P1010978%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="1-P1010978" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="1-P1010978" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-E6z2bEOlaNA/Uww1nt9brfI/AAAAAAAAFa0/FCI0brAhFOI/1-P1010978_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p>Every night the sunset is amazing, like everyone else we keep taking pictures.</p> <p>On Friday we decided that we would leave Ogilbey Rd on Sunday right after the Gold Medal Hockey game.</p> <p> Denise road her bike down from Quartzsite to meet us for lunch on Saturday, we were so happy we got to say good bye to her.</p> <p>We overnighted at the Red Earth Casino and drove up highway 10 and highway 15 to Owl Canyon BLM just north of Barstow CA. So far we really like it here, there was one tent as we came in to the campground, other than that we haven’t seen a soul.</p> <p>Our Site</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-P_s2CJz-MDA/Uww1ojqCRPI/AAAAAAAAFa8/Fw4TFEygBsw/s1600-h/1-P1010998%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="1-P1010998" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="1-P1010998" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-RbTDbRhI0iQ/Uww1pVxoKGI/AAAAAAAAFbE/YiZOQgVwnCQ/1-P1010998_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="175"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-ZFSWAsS1lXY/Uww1qKsaE6I/AAAAAAAAFbM/0NkEyqDP-_4/s1600-h/1-P1020001%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="1-P1020001" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="1-P1020001" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-qxyqboqsrXE/Uww1qzwj0WI/AAAAAAAAFbU/HN4vDMCa7ew/1-P1020001_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="176"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-GQkw_LomqZ0/Uww1rgfuuXI/AAAAAAAAFbc/6usEkCq_UZA/s1600-h/1-P1010999%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="1-P1010999" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="1-P1010999" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-IA2-CIDY5hA/Uww1sYc0E5I/AAAAAAAAFbk/etf_hu8gTZ8/1-P1010999_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-sv7GOVxZops/Uww1uRngj7I/AAAAAAAAFbs/MXPol7DxsZ0/s1600-h/1-P1020002%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="1-P1020002" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="1-P1020002" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-uhr4Jp1vKn4/Uww1vDq-EgI/AAAAAAAAFb0/cvBK5bA5M4c/1-P1020002_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="175"></a></p> <p>We are staying here a few days, then we will start the journey home.</p> <p>Jean</p> Jean and Skiphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01106819454019297412noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5117870801809737278.post-64522398659053469852014-02-06T21:59:00.001-08:002014-02-06T22:01:06.609-08:00A Week in Q<p> </p> <p>We arrived in Quartzsite one week ago today, and headed straight to Plomosa Rd BLM,we got our 14 day permit and looked for a spot, it was still pretty crowded with large groups of RVers , cars and people coming and going. It looked like everyone was having a great time. We knew it wouldn’t work with our dogs, they aren’t used to busy campgrounds and neither are we, so we moved down highway 95 to The Road Runner BLM.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-NfB6Y3Y8o6s/UvR1-1HXJCI/AAAAAAAAFXE/3vp-3PjIf34/s1600-h/P1010911%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="P1010911" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="P1010911" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-6aMvl2_DWnQ/UvR1_ZrOhoI/AAAAAAAAFXM/0HLDnEJv3XI/P1010911_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="183"></a></p> <p>Our site at Road Runner, I think the Saguaro is on his way out.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-JovchxB7HzA/UvR2AC09mdI/AAAAAAAAFXU/1TzQeeVbSog/s1600-h/P1010924%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="P1010924" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="P1010924" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-WwcCSqJWKh8/UvR2A2hYynI/AAAAAAAAFXc/qtLOiieWulY/P1010924_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p>This site is farther done the road, we would stay here another time.</p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-Qq2Z6ONZy-A/UvR2BUrSwtI/AAAAAAAAFXk/rQivUsGd22c/s1600-h/P1010913%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="P1010913" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="P1010913" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-IYIh8qAn5OE/UvR2B4rvJaI/AAAAAAAAFXs/4XwuUtmpAHI/P1010913_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="139"></a></p> <p>Some of our neighbours.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/--CnNMEUY6-Y/UvR2CtQcTwI/AAAAAAAAFX0/DTbJg30YBXU/s1600-h/P1010922%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="P1010922" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="P1010922" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-nZZ2HG1cPTc/UvR2DCqC0JI/AAAAAAAAFX8/TdXAzx4fyNM/P1010922_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="139"></a></p> <p>Never seen this before.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-iNhiAjWmdf8/UvR2Du0aENI/AAAAAAAAFYE/TRP6IM6xqdM/s1600-h/P1010919%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="P1010919" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="P1010919" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-1mbmuz4C1Fw/UvR2EY68XBI/AAAAAAAAFYM/wm36PvPBpQk/P1010919_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p>Q was still pretty busy when we first arrived but there has been a pretty steady stream of RVs heading down highway 95 each day.</p> <p> </p> <p>Our friend Denise is here, staying in one of the Long Term Visitors Area closer to town. And we met George and Susie Yates, whose blog we have read for a long time. Skip actually recognized their RV from the highway and we drove in and introduced ourselves. Had a nice visit with them.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-qOG3L3wCAdI/UvR2E2T9lDI/AAAAAAAAFYU/D7saEGQ1qXk/s1600-h/P1010917%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="P1010917" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="P1010917" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-xBeCHbePGUc/UvR2FY-jD1I/AAAAAAAAFYc/QKWQX4dClqo/P1010917_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p>A couple of days later they moved down to Road Runner for a couple of day, and parked near us. Had enough of dry camping I think, and they have park memberships and this stay is free.</p> <p>We are at 123 days without services.</p> <p>We aren’t sure how long we are staying in Quartzsite and haven’t decided where we will wander next, it’s all weather dependent at this point. We want to start our trip home around the first of March, we had the atlas out this morning but we haven’t decided on our route yet.</p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-6YSjvXz_fgM/UvR2IkjMKgI/AAAAAAAAFZE/JwFHA5Zs2rY/s1600-h/P1010918%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="P1010918" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="P1010918" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-FCvsOhU28b8/UvR2Oas6zPI/AAAAAAAAFZM/3NftjILjxZI/P1010918_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p>Got up the other morning and there is Jake in Louie’s bed, on the dash. We are at the same area we normally park, we almost parked next to the big wash, but there were quite a few rigs there so we moved about 1km farther up the road. <a href="Roadtrip 2006.blogspot.com" target="_blank">Ivan</a> emailed the same night to tell us that we had been in the site he’d just vacated and that Wandering Willy was parked across the wash. So we finally got to meet Bill aka Wandering Willie. We stopped by his trailer on our way to Yuma one day and had a short visit, what a nice man he is.</p> <p>We were in Anza Borrego for almost eight weeks, at first there were only a half dozen RVs in the area we stay in, between Christmas and New Years the numbers grew to probably 35 or 40. Some people spend the winter camped at the dry lake bed and several of them were very unhappy with the influx of people.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-dkwnwGj9K30/Uupo3DqkzlI/AAAAAAAAFV8/qnZT4RsAKSI/s1600-h/1-P1010751%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="1-P1010751" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="1-P1010751" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-IGBqsCYG07c/Uupo39NpuFI/AAAAAAAAFWE/W3hwUwdpEHA/1-P1010751_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="175"></a></p> <p>One man put up tape so no one could encroach on his space, and then proceeded to take the fire pits apart on the site next to him so nobody would camp there either.</p> <p>Another camper put barricades up at the entrance to his site after a couple of rvers tried to make a parking spot where there wasn’t one. He would walk his dog past our site every day and we had several conversations about all the rvs</p> <p>I was quite astounded when I was told that I was was the subject of a rant by the same fellow, and that it was my fault that all the people were coming the dry lake bed area. He said that I blogged about Borrego and told everyone to come and that bloggers were a cult and I was the ring leader. I believe he was talking about a group of people in Air Stream Trailers who were parked in the site next to us, and the NU RVers who had a gathering near us.
